Drawing from Experience
My path to Directing started back when I was still in school for theatre and I started booking jobs as Director almost as frequently as I was booking acting jobs. After graduation, I co-founded the Remote Theatre Company in NYC, serving as Artistic Director for several years and Directing several productions, myself. The transition to film directing began in Los Angeles, several years later, when I was hired to direct a music video for The Mythical Creatures, who had just won the Battle of the Bands in LA. Since then I've directed a short film, two featurettes/long-format-shorts, two web series, two PSAs for Charity:Water, and a PSA for Matt Damon's Water.org. In addition to my experience as a Director, I've also served as the Creative Producer on a number of commercials, infomercials, and industrials through my production company, Bissonica Entertainment. Now that I feel sufficiently prepared, I'm looking forward to Directing my first feature film, utilizing my experience and applicable skills.
Imagining a Vision
From my time working in Development under Barry Josephson, to my work in the Story Department for reality TV, to my education in the work of Joseph Campbell, to my plays in NYC and LA, to the success of my novel, to my work as a director, I have always been driven most by my passion for imagining a vision and for seeing how all the pieces of a story come together.
Working with Actors
Originally trained as an actor at the Hartt School and working as a professional actor for eighteen years, I've taught master classes in acting at several college theatre departments, ran a high school theatre department, and founded a Meisner-based actor training program in Los Angeles. This experience allows me to efficiently coach actors and help them create memorable performances.
Creating the World
I've been tinkering and constructing things for nearly my entire life. Though I didn't Production Design my first feature film until 2010, combining my life-time of experience building things with my love of creating fantastic worlds and my training in stagecraft, I've quickly become established and sought after as a Production Designer in New York and Los Angeles.
Composing the Image
Having worked as a professional photographer in a busy photo studio, I treat each frame of the movie like a work of art. Being able to see these shots and how they go together is useful in making sure a scene is covered without wasting time on unnecissary setups. The pace and pressure of shooting in a busy photo studio has also trained me to get the shots I need quickly and efficiently. Finally, this knowledge allows me to communicate proficiently with cinematographers, collaborating and problem solving with ease.
Leading the Team
For the last twenty years, no matter what I'm working on -whether it's working in the industry or outside of the industry- I usually seem to find myself in a leadership position. I understand what needs to be done to successfully accomplish my vision and I know how to inspire my team to bring their "A-game" and get the job done!
